I just purchased VIP Essentials, written by Chris Rempel, and I have to tell you, this has one of the best (and shortest) guides on building links and generating traffic that I've ever seen. It also includes WordPress and HTML templates he uses to build his product review sites.

Take a look at the info page. You may find it to be intriguing enough to spend $30 on.

Of course, I have yet to try it (I literally just bought it), but I have a lot of faith in Chris' products because the other ones I've bought have over-delivered on their promises.

When I do put this package in place, I'll let you know how it goes.

The second one is a method that describes, step by step, how to funnel massive amounts of traffic through your web site(s).

Like I said, both are worth their weight in gold. Chris has made it, so can you.

Google offers a great resource about links: Inbound, outbound, and internal. Worth a read to get back to basics.

And this series of posts tells us what we already knew: Sensible linking makes, um, sense. And at least Google rewards your site for sensible linking.

At least they say they do. I still read stories about "inbound links" that have "no relevancy" to your site are still very valuable, but only Google knows, and they seem to be saying that relevancy does matter.

Proof, as they say, is always in the pudding.

Meetings Make Us Dumber

Okay, the headline says meetings make us dumber, a theory to which I've subscribed ever since I started going to meetings, but the article really says that meetings make us less creative.

I believe both. Herd mentality often rules meetings; you can almost hear the creativity sucked from the room. But I think meetings actually do make us dumber, as in, if you go to enough meetings, you will soon be a tad dumber. Over time, this can have a significant impact on your IQ, not to mention your willingness to live.

The Cycle of Sick

The Cycle of Sick is what I call what's currently going on in my household. My wife and I have a one-year old who's in daycare 4 days a week and with Grandma one day a week. We put him in daycare about the same time winter started and he's been nothing but sick since. Now, I don't know whether it's winter, daycare, neither, or both, but I suspect daycare.

Liam is pretty mobile now, though technically his motivation is via crawling rather than walking. Oh, he can walk, but just for a few steps before -- what sometimes appears purposeful -- falling on his behind where he then commences crawling.

Liam is also VERY sociable. He's a social bee, in everybody's business. If a kid has a toy, Liam wants to play, if a little boy has some Cheerios, Liam wants some. If a kid is just sleeping, Liam wants to wake him up. If a kid's chewed on some toy, Liam chews on it, too. And therein lies the rub. Germs are everywhere.

So, he sneezes and coughs. On mommy and daddy. Mommy and daddy get sick. We go to work. He goes to daycare. We spread the love. Mommy and daddy get better. Liam brings home another bug. We get sick again.

Rinse and repeat. The Cycle of Sick prevails. How to stop it? I wish I knew.

Corportate Performance Management

I just got a new job within the company I work for. I will be managing the performance reporting for a newly-formed group that handles all correspondence with our customers, which includes letters, statements, "plastics" (credit card industry lingo for credit card), and any other form of written communication.

I will be purchasing the book, Corporate Performance Management, with the objective of clarifying, codifying, and building out a performance management reporting structure that is able to grow as the enterprise becomes larger. As we take on more responsibilities, we will need a robust performance management solution. I am the guy tasked with not only setting all this up (i.e., the strategy), but then executing it.

It's a mighty big task with lots of unknowns, and I need all the help I can get. Once I read this book, look for a review of it on this page.

My first post

This is my first post to Bill space D. Why Bill space D? Why not? Here's the short story about how I became known as "billspaced."

Back in 1995, when I bought my first Windows PC, my roommate was insistent on signing up for this thing called America Online. I had no idea what it was. It seemed like some silly gimmick to get me and millions of other unsuspecting computer idiots to spend money I didn't necessarily have to meet other unsuspecting computer idiots online.

Anyway, my roommate signed up and so did I. I wanted Bill D, as in "Bill D" but little did I know that I spaces weren't allowed. So, I did the next best thing: bill d, as in "billspaced." It stuck.

(Not that being somewhat blond didn't hurt.)

Now, 12 years later, I'm still using it as my "handle." That's the end of that story.

I'd like to tell you now why I created this blog. Mostly because "billspaced" was available and I wanted to get it before anybody else did. Have you done any WHOIS searches lately? It seems like every possible combination of letters in the English alphabet has been used to create domain names; there aren't many names left.

But billspaced was available, so I took it. And billspaced.blogspot.com was available, so I took that, too. Blogger is my blogware of choice. It's easy to use, the hosting is free, and it's very popular. It doesn't hurt that it's owned by google, either. I am sure that helps in the searches.

This blog will be the place where I ramble on about the things going on in my life, both at home and at work. I may talk about my family (all good talk, by the way), my job, things that get under my skin, good news, bad news, and everything in between. I may post some book reviews as well. I'll try to relay facts rather than opinion; I have another blog where my opinions virtually bleed off the pages (Rants 'n Reviews). I have a personal finance blog called Money Hacks and a photography blog called Photododo. I also have a computer-oriented blog called Computer Monkeys.

I like to read, fish, cycle, weight train, and have a keen interest in photography, technology, and family. I especially like to play with my 1-year-old son. He's a prince.

Anyway, that's all for now.
